When African prints fall out of fashion’s good grace, I will still proudly be wearing that shit to Nigerian parties and African weddings all across the social spectrum. It was part of my culture before it’s sudden popularity, and it’ll still hold cultural significance after it’s time in the spotlight has passed. To finally see others acknowledge the uniqueness in the clothes that we for so long have been aware of is breath of fresh air. But I pray that over-production of stale designs with redundant patterns doesn’t pollute this appreciative atmosphere and sense of respect that people have acquired for African based creativity. But I know it’s inevitable. And honestly some of the people I see decked out in our attire aren’t working it, they’re letting it work them. But what can I say? Bold colorful threads that resemble the least bit of the flamboyant African nature aren’t  going to allow some timid bleak soul to steal their shine. It’s time for Africa.
